For the first time in 3 years, BabyMetal performed at the Rock in Japan Festival, on the "Grass Stage" August 6, 2016.
This is the first Japanese performance for the girls since they got back from their overseas tour, that included stops in the United States, Germany, Australia, and Great Britain.
The Rock in Japan Festival is a yearly event that takes place in Hitachi Seaside Park, in Hitachinaka, which is is in the Ibaraki Prefecture. It sits in the Kanto region near Fukushima and Chiba. The festival has taken place since 2000, and has featured bands such as Maximum the Hormone, Chatmonchy, Perfume, One Ok Rock and others.
The show has been a big place for smaller idol groups as well, including LinQ and PASSPO. BabyMetal was just beginning their rise to dominance in 2013 the first time they performed here. They were still regulated to the "DJ Booth" stage, where most of the small idol groups performed, including 9ine and UpUpgirls.
Now that they are international sensations, they get to take the main stage. The crowd was huge, with over 50,000 people in attendance. They ended up performing an 8 song setlist, which included all of their big hits and a lot of call and response sections, in both Japanese and English.
The girls will be hitting a couple more summer festivals over the next few weeks throughout Japan, including the Rising Sun Rock Festival in Ezo on August 12, Summer Sonic 2016 in Osaka on August 21, before finishing up there world tour with two sold out shows in the Tokyo Dome September 19 and September 20.
